Konami to open a school of magic

Enchanted Folk and the School of Wizardry coming to DS

Konami has let slip details about a new DS title for early 2009 that places gamers in the role of a young apprentice magician who enrols at a school of wizardry. The announcement is accompanied by a cauldron full of screenshots direct from Leipzig that you can see in the corner of this page.

Enchanted Folk and the School of Wizardry promises to place interactivity at the core of the gameplay. Featuring over 100 interactive pupils at the school, players must learn key spells to solve a series of puzzles to ultimately become a Master of Wizardry. Along the way you can expect to take part in other, more typical school activities such as joining the band, making friends, taking up hobbies and going out on dates.

Most interesting of all is that the game will use the DS's internal clock so events take place in real-time. Once a week mysterious characters will appear to give players their next challenge, while players will be able to 'study abroad' (or two!) and be imported into a friend's game for tutoring.

As unique as this real-time gameplay is, there's something decidedly familiar about the whole concept, though I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm sure it'll come to me while I potter around the office, though.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
