Could Elebits 2 be headed for DS?

Update: a Konami representative has since told us that until the game appears on a UK release schedule and is announced, they cannot comment on this.

It's far from conclusive evidence, but we're excited enough about this to report it anyway.

According to a listing on game rental site GameFly, Elebits 2 (or Eledees as the original Wii game – pictured – was known here in the UK) is coming out on DS. It hasn't been confirmed by Konami – in fact, a Wii sequel hasn't even been confirmed yet – but that doesn't stop us thinking Eledees would be a good fit for DS and could easily be done.

For those who haven't played the Wii version, the game has you hunting down elusive little Eledee creatures with a Capture Gun that's a lot like a vacuum cleaner. The little critters hide everywhere – in cupboards and under beds and ornaments – so it's not easy to find then catch them.

As they conduct electricity, the more you find, the more powerful your gun gets and the bigger the objects you can throw about, which means Eledees feels a bit like quirky console favourite Katamari Damacy crossed with that Neil Buchanan-presented kid's programme, Finders Keepers, where kids trashed a house looking for prizes.

On Wii the game used the console's remote for aiming but the DS stylus could theoretically work just as intuitively.

Although we stress this is mostly conjecture, GameFly has even supplied a release date for the game, saying it'll come out on August 30th this year. We're hoping Konami will clarify whether the game is actually in existence shortly. Click 'Track It!' to be among the first to find out when it does.
