Dungeon Defenders update set to add Android, iPhone, and PC cross-platform play

Trendy Entertainment, the company behind the ambitious Unreal Engine-powered strategy-RPG Dungeon Defenders, has revealed that an exciting new update is in the works for its game.

Dungeon Defenders: First Wave is out now on iPhone, and will be released on Android in a couple of days. The forthcoming update will allow the two platforms to play nicely (for once).

Over on the company’s Twitter page, it announced: “You've asked for it! iOS + Android + PC, TOGETHER! First multi-platform title!” followed by a link to a YouTube video that has since been withdrawn.

The video apparently features an iPad, two Android devices (including the much-anticipated dual-core LG Optimus 2X), and a PC all being used to play the game together.

Dungeon Defenders won’t be the first game to feature such cross-platform play, of course – Homerun Battle 3D and Skies of Glory offered Android vs iPhone play ages ago – but it might just be the first to invite the PC to the party.

So far Dungeon Defenders only facilitates co-operative play, but it’s widely held that a competitive element will be introduced in due course.

One other element that could well be a first is the ability to carry your character across to other versions of the game. So if you’ve been busy toiling away with your warrior monk on your PC, you’ll be able to switch to your smartphone and continue the level-grinding on the bus to work/school.

It's all sounding impossibly cool. We’ll bring you more news as we get it.
