Gameloft preparing new Driver mobile game

Gameloft has announced that it'll be releasing Driver: LA Undercover this June, a mobile racer based on the famous Driver console franchise.

The publisher has revealed little about the game, other than that it'll come in 2D and 3D versions, and will be out in June to tie in with the release of Driver: Parallel Lines (logo pictured) on PC and Wii, as well as Driver 76 on PSP.

But hang on a minute? Doesn't Glu Mobile do mobile Driver games? Well, yes, although its last effort was the distinctly lacklustre Driv3r that came out last year.

However, the change of publisher isn't a surprise, since the console Driver franchise is now owned by Ubisoft, Gameloft's sister company. The new deal does mean that Glu's Driver mobile games will be whipped off operator portals at the end of this month though.

"We have ambitious goals for this franchise and we intend to install a completely renewed gameplay that has never been seen before in mobile games," says Michel Guillemot, president of Gameloft. Hopefully that still means, well, driving.
