Some games love to tout your death, like Dark Souls' infamous "Prepare to Die", and Cubus Games' Deadman Diaries is just as overt. "Every death tells a story" in this gritty crime interactive fiction, available for iOS and Android.

Deadman Diaries follows down-on-his-luck John Riggs, as he struggles to pay off a gambling debt. Your struggles to clear your debt will take many dark, often deadly, turns; in fact, the game even features a screen that lists all your unfortunate ends.

Cubus Games cite influences ranging from the modern noir trappings of the Cohen Brothers and Scorsese to the mob family drama of the Sopranos. Expect seedy places, even seedier characters, illegal activities, and brutal deaths throughout your playthroughs.

Deadman Diaries is available for £0.79 / $0.99 on the App Store and Google Play.
