David. is a fast-paced abstract action game that developer Fermenter Games describes as a combination of Limbo, Shadow of the Colossus, and Angry Birds.

However, the title of the game and its slingshot-based play would suggest that the battle between David and Goliath might be the biggest influence here.

The game begins with a fast-moving square called David being given a divine weapon (a slingshot).

You're taught to place your finger in the halo around David and then drag it to aim your shots.

Shortly after, you find yourself in a large hall with many doors. Above them are names of various sins and beasts, which you'll have to defeat in order to enter the largest door, a.k.a. Sin.

Behind these doors are single-screen boss battles. To be victorious against a boss, you'll need to combine the ability to learn the weaknesses in the boss's behaviour with some serious agility.

Luckily, every time you aim your slingshot, a slow motion effect kicks in, enabling you to line up your shots. This also gives you a quick breather from the frantic action.

Each boss battle I've played so far has felt fresh on account of each creature's unique design.

Importantly, the use of abstract graphics here mean that the enemies aren't visually intimidating (except for their size). In effect, it's their power and not their appearance that matters.

David. is a game that will test your observation skills and wit while under pressure. Worth a look if that sounds appealing.

You can purchase David. from the App Store for 69p / 99c right this second.
