Dave Mirra on PSP breaks all previous screenshot records

The Pocket Gamer server is groaning under the weight of these 135 new images of Dave Mirra BMX Challenge on PSP. Surely even Dave's mum would struggle to get through this lot without hankering for some Lance Armstrong pics instead?

That's not to say Dave Mirra isn't an alternative sports superstar, as publisher Crave is keen to remind us in the bumph accompanying these visuals. Mr Mirra's games have sold two million copies to date, and he currently holds more gold medals than any other extreme sportsperson in the history of the X Games.

But what of his PSP game? Sadly, facts remain thinner on the ground than Dave doing a wheelie along a tightrope.

We do know the game has the sort of open structure that's trendy in left-field sports games right now (see yesterday's story on Blade's pool PSP hope, The Hustle: Detroit Streets). As such, you'll live the everyday life of a biker, winning BMX trick competitions and acquiring and customising extra bikes as you rise from 'Oi! Get off the pavement you scrote!' status to a level more befitting Dave 'Miracle Boy' Mirra.

There will be nine bikes to choose from, 17 levels and nine playable environments, and as for playable characters, you can customize your own. We're also promised four-way adhoc wireless play. There's no detail though on the range of tricks or the events themselves.

The screens look pretty good – at least the first 75 we ploughed through did – but until we get our hands on Dave Mirra BMX Challenge, it's too early to suggest you get on your bike. The game is due out in October
