Pocket Gamer's best mobile games of the year 2016 - Emily's top 5

We've got the decisive list, but what do we each think?

Pocket Gamer's best mobile games of the year 2016 - Emily's top 5

Granted, I turned up a little late to the party, so I'm missing almost half a year of mobile goodness, but what I've seen since being here, I've liked.

As someone who suffers with a short attention span, my contenders for 'Emily's GOTY' probably won't be yours, so here we go. In no particular order:

Oh, Sir!...The Insult Simulator

Shock horror that a British-made game with British, Monty Python-esque humour would tickle me the right way, eh?
I grew up on old-school comedy and used to love to do Madlibs. So put two and two together and combine it in a digital setting and voila!

Oh, Sir! is a cracking mix of strategy, competition, and bonkers humour.

Crap! I'm Broke

A bit of a depressingly realistic take on life simulation, this one.
Despite the fact that all of us understand the feeling of living pay check to pay check (our younger readers, you'll have this to look forward to), the game itself is actually really addictive.

Once I managed to sink a good four hours into the game totally by accident, so I'd call it a success.

This one won one of PG's Big Indie Pitches before my time as News Editor, but once the full game hit iOS earlier this year I couldn't help but fall in love with it.
When you mix gorgeous graphics with a fun platformer, uncrowded controls, and skills/armour that you can upgrade, you get something brilliant like this. I'm a fan.

Burly Men at Sea

It may not be action-packed like some mobile games but BOY does this game pack a punch.
It's a very innocent game about three big burly men with big bushy beards. If that wasn't enough to win you over, it's also packed full of mythological creatures, wonderful tales, and a fantastic score of both sound effects (man-made) and music.

I played this game through with a smile on my face.

Rusty Lake: Roots

The boys will no doubt be pulling up Space Marshals 2 and the like with their lists but I'm a point-and-click and story-oriented kind of gal, which is probably makes us all such a great team *insert dry retch*.

Since meeting the minds behind RL: Roots at Gamescom in the summer, I'd been looking forward to getting my hands on the game and I wasn't disappointed when I did.

As a marvelous mixture of perplexing puzzles and some almost unsettling visuals/tasks, RL: Roots is definitely a solid addition to my GOTY list.
