Polarbit's Cracking Sands is now also available to download for Android-powered smartphones and tablets.

You can grab it from Google Play for £3.11.

Weapon-based kart racer Cracking Sands will come skidding onto the App Store at midnight tonight.

Bursting forth from the experienced loins of Swedish studio Polarbit (the team responsible for Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart and Reckless Racing), Cracking Sands combines Mario Kart mechanics with Mad Max-style environments.

Cracking Sands is set in an apocalyptic future where status is determined by prowess at automobile-on-automobile violence. To climb the social ladder, then, you have to win races and blast off faces.

Cracking Sands offers a range of customisation options, allowing you to tweak your character, balance your kart, and, of course, tailor your weapon loadout.

In addition to the single-player game mode, there's support for online multiplayer, meaning you can swap out AI competitors for the real deal and participate in global race events.

If you fancy careering through a dust storm with a rocket launcher strapped to your bonnet (you wouldn't be the first), then you can buy Cracking Sands on iPhone and iPad for £2.99 / $4.99 from midnight this evening.
