Clash Royale heads back to the past with new (yet old) Retro Royale mode

Play like it's 2017

Clash Royale heads back to the past with new (yet old) Retro Royale mode
  • Clash Royale is taking things back to 2017 with the new Retro Royale Mode
  • Available for a limited time from March 12th to the 26th, it offers exciting new rewards
  • Climb the 30 step ladder to nab Gold and Season Tokens

As I mentioned yesterday with the news that Supercell would be ditching Troop Training times in Clash of Clans, one of the major reasons they've managed to stay on top is continuously refreshing their top releases. And it seems that it's not just Clash of Clans seeing a change, as to mark Clash Royale's latest anniversary Supercell are bringing things back to 2017!

The new Retro Royale mode, announced via trailer, looks to take players back to launch, meta and cards included. Available from March 12th to the 26th, you'll have to pick from a limited pool of 80 cards as you climb the Retro Ladder and duke it out for exclusive rewards as you climb the 30 steps to gain Gold and Season Tokens.

The competition continues to heat up as you rise through the ranks, as once you reach the Competitive League you'll be assigned a starting rank based on your Tropy Road progress. And from there it's all about Retro Royale Performance, so keep climbing the leaderboard to demonstrate your timeless talents.

It's rather ironic that I most recently wrote about Supercell working to keep their releases feeling fresh, only for a retro mode to arrive right after. But then I suppose there's a difference between something feeling dated and nostalgic; and with the rewards on offer it's hard to see why fans won't want to jump in and give it a go.

Oh, and keep an eye on this, because as long as you compete in both Retro Ladder and the Competitive League at least once you'll get a special badge for each.
