Clash of Critters team building guide - Tatari that battle Zobos together, stay together

There's no single comp to rule them all when you're battling zombies, but our Clash of Critters team building guide can help you fend them off to keep your brains intact.

Clash of Critters team building guide - Tatari that battle Zobos together, stay together

Clash of Critters, by the very definition of its title alone, revolves around fighting. But before you go thinking it's all about pitting animals against each other after capturing them in the wild and keeping them captive inside tiny balls, Farlight's twist on the monster-taming genre is actually vastly different - instead, you pit the titular critters against zombies called Zobos, because nobody wants to be eaten by the undead, right?

If you want to make sure your beloved companions stay in prime fighting form, you'll need to keep your squad properly balanced, which is what this Clash of Critters team building guide is all about.

One key thing to remember is that there is no single one-size-fits-all comp here. Combat is a grid-based affair, for one thing, so you constantly need to reposition your critters to maximise your damage. For another, there are different elemental affinities that vary for every stage and every lane. So while it might be convenient to go full auto on everything, having a "one team to rule them all" mindset is the fastest way to get your brains eaten.

So, I've decided to structure this as a flexible guide where you can easily swap one out for another. Obviously, you won't have every single one, which is why there are multiple options depending on which Tatari you pull from the summons pool (or capture from your gachapon capsules).

Also, as I mentioned, each stage will have different Zobos with their own elemental attributes. Based on the rock-paper-scissors mechanic, strengths and weaknesses go like this: Water>Fire>Leaf>Earth>Lightning>Water. So, if a Zobo in front of you has an Earth element, drop a Leaf element Tatari in there to counter it. You'll see a lovely little thumbs-up icon on your Tatari, which means your Counter DMG: 200%. If you see a thumbs-down icon instead, that means you'll get Countered DMG: 50% - not very ideal.

The key thing is to make sure your team is balanced - that means you've always got your choice of DPS (whether that's for AoE or single-target for bosses), your tank, your Healer, your support, and your crowd control. Healers are particularly important, especially when you're starting out, which is why it's crucial to keep an eye on those special skills.

So, pick one for each role, be mindful of their elements, and feel free to mix and match these to craft the best squad lineup for you depending on the stage.

Role Tatari Skill
DPS - AoE Frugling (Leaf) Puffruit Pop - Launches a prickly pink fruit that occasionally explodes, dealing AoE damage.
DPS - AoE Zapooch (Lightning) Bolt Storm - Unleashes a rapid series of chained lightning strikes.
DPS - AoE Goonbug (Leaf) Bugrush - Gains Invincibility and dashes forward, dealing AoE damage.
DPS - Single Target Cactobud (Leaf) Needle Rain - Launches spines to apply stacks of Sting.
DPS - Single Target Fluffle (Lightning)  Static Fluff - Summons white clouds that continuously deal small AoE damage with lightning. Fires lightning arcs to move clouds.
Tank Manteeny (Leaf) Double Slash - Strikes continuously to deal AoE damage.
Tank Punchimp (Earth) Clone Caper - Wiggles hips, dealing small AoE damage. May summon a clone to assist.
Tank Blowfin (Fire) Huff and Puff - After taking damage from close-range enemies, counterattacks to deal AoE damage. When not counterattacking, meditates to recover HP.
Healer Cluckeroo (Leaf) Nutri-Shot - Shoots two seeds, one that inflicts damage, and one that recovers HP.
Healer Glowfly (Lightning) Glowing Guardian - Grants one front row ally a Static Shield. The shield deals AoE damage when it disappears.
Healer Buddi (Leaf) Bright Hug - Shines down sunlight, healing allies and granting Sunshine: ATK Boost.
Support Cheerling (Lightning) Bunny Dance - Dances continuously, dealing AoE damage while healing nearby allies and granting them Support: ATK & DEF Boost.
Support Dewgrub (Water) Drowsy Shot - Launches water bombs that inflict Slow and sometimes inflict Sleep.
Crowd Control Frostnip (Water) Frost Block - Fires an ice block that inflicts Slow.
Crowd Control Voltfawn (Lightning) Stun Spear - Fires a lightning lance that pierces enemies and inflicts Paralysis.
Crowd Control Hootlet (Leaf) Dawn Call - Creates an AoE terrain in front. Enemies in the terrain take damage and are inflicted with stackable Slowdown.

At the end of the day, this Clash of Critters team building guide can only go so far - you still need to pick the one you like best even though the whole world is telling you it's a dud. I, for one, really like Cactobud even though he's not considered S+ tier - just because he's a cactus, and he's my bud.

In any case, if you're looking for a more in-depth look at how each Tatari ranks, we've also got a Clash of Critters tier list and a Clash of Critters codes list too!
