There was a time when the idea of running someone over on purpose in a video game was so shocking that it made editors of tabloid newspapers wail in moral outrage.

Carmageddon is a product of that time. And while the impact of its violent pedestrian-squishing racing has been blunted somewhat in the intervening years, we handed the iOS version of it a Silver Award last year.

Furthermore, it'll be available for free for the first 24 hours. If you're quick off the download mark, then, you'll be able to bag yourself a slice of gaming history for nothing at all.

With 28 opponents to race against across 11 massive environments, and a career mode with more than 36 levels, Carmageddon offers plenty of literal bangs for your buck.

Fans of spoonerisms, ridiculous automotive carnage, and upsetting the overly sensitive should keep their eyes on the Google Play Store on May 10th.
