Indie iOS platformer Bumpy Road hits the App Store, lets you contemplate ageing, bounce in a car
Poop poop
We've been excited about Bumpy Road since the trailer first appeared in the Pocket Gamer inbox and indie luminaries like Capy's Nathan Vella and Pocket Gamer's own Mike Rose tarted getting excited about it on Twitter and elsewhere.
Developed by indie studio Simogo Games, which previously brought us the beautiful but imperfect Kosmo Spin, Bumpy Road is a “love story on four wheels.”
Far from being the dogging sim that this description evokes, Bumpy Road actually involves pushing piano key-like sections of a road up with your finger to propel an ageing couple along in their vintage car, negotiating platform sections and collecting items.
Touchingly, as you make your way through the game you unlock memories from their life together. God love indies.
There are three modes – Evergreen Ride, which lets you travel as far as you can; Sunday Trip, which challenges you to beat your best time; and Memory Lane, which lets you see your life story. The game also boasts all the mod cons – Game Center leaderboards and achievements, and Retina display visuals.
It's out now in the New Zealand App Store, which means it'll be available in the UK and US from around midnight, costing £1.79 / $2.99. It's a universal app.
