The Prince picks up his deck

Card-based angle for new DS Prince of Persia game

The Prince picks up his deck

What is it about card-based games? We blame Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! for starting the avalanche. Both great games of course, but now cards seem to be sneaking into games that never used to have anything to do with them. First we had the very strange Metal Gear Ac!d on PSP and now another top gaming character has picked up his deck. Exclusively in development for DS, Ubisoft has announced Battles of Prince of Persia - a card-based war game.

For those who have played the recent Prince of Persia games, Battles is set between Sands of Time and Warrior Within, as the Prince manages to release an ancient evil (again! - he should really be more careful) that starts a war between India and Persia.

The game will work in an open way, and you’ll be able to chose to play as one of ten characters - the Prince himself or one of the nine generals who are duking it out on either side of the war - and there will be 27 different warrior units spread across three factions that you’ll be able to use to create your ultimate army. And as you win more battles, you’ll collect the cash you’ll need to buy special power-up cards that will give you the edge for your next attack.

You’ll also be able to buy and trade cards with your mates using DS’ wi-fi, and the game’s multiplayer modes include a head-to-head battle, with different options depending on whether you both have a copy of the game or only one of you.
