It might seem like a bizarre statement at first glance, but it could well be that the continued success of the App Store is benefiting Android Market in the long term.

As new studios find their feet – and, indeed, fill their wallets – on iPhone, so they then set their sights on expanding their base and bringing their wares to Android.

One such developer that has enjoyed downloads aplenty on the App Store is SkyVu Pictures.

After racking up series wide sales of 4 million within Battle Bears' first year on iPhone, the studio has now revealed it will be bringing the series to Android, starting with a free beta of the original Battle Bears.

Bullish bears

"We are very excited to bring Battle Bears to the Android platform," said series creator and SkyVu president Benjamin Vu.

"We're based in the Midwest where Android is more widely used, so it's great to finally share Battle Bears with a whole new audience that uses non-iOS devices.

"Creating successful games in the App Store and the Android Market are key parts of our goal of making Battle Bears a household name."

Free for all

Android isn't the only platform set to benefit from the franchise's sales milestone on iPhone, either.

SkyVu Pictures has revealed it has teamed up with FreeAppADay.com to release Battle Bears: Zombies and Battle Bears Go on iPad for free in celebration for a limited period.

"It is a pleasure to be working with another strong franchise," said FreeAppADay.com CEO Joe Bayen.

"Our million strong audience has been responding very positively to the Battle Bears campaign with both paid and free versions climbing at an amazingly fast pace in the App Store."
