Asphalt: Urban GT was something of a trailblazer last year, being one of the first made-for-mobile games to accelerate onto other pocket gaming devices. Now its sequel looks set to follow suit, as Ubisoft has announced that Asphalt: Urban GT 2 is going to make the road trip from phones and N-Gage (pictured here) to PSP and DS later this year.

Building upon Gameloft's original, the handheld console versions will sport six game modes, and enable you to take one of 36 cars and bikes, tune it up and then race it around 30 distinct tracks.

Music from Moby and the Pussy Cat Dolls will keep your ears occupied, and the latter will also appear in game to reward players in their own unique way.

"Ubisoft is excited to introduce the follow up to one of the best-selling racing games on the Nintendo DS," said Ubisoft's VP of marketing Tony Key, while, we'd like to imagine, lounging with several of the Dolls in a Jacuzzi. "Asphalt: Urban GT 2 is the most feature-rich racing game available for handhelds, and will provide gamers with an exhilarating street racing experience."

As yet we don't have any snapshots to share of either the Dolls or the game (or Tony Key, for that matter), so you'll have to make do with these pics from the N-Gage version for now.

What we do know is that the DS version will be first off the grid in November, whilst the PSP edition is due to cross the finishing line in March next year. As usual, click 'Track It!' to be kept informed of developments.
