Indie games developer Derek Briggs has released Choppy Waters, an endless running game for iOS and Android devices.
The premise for this game made me laugh, it’s so dazzlingly silly and I love it. You play as a swimming cat who has to swim across the underwater depths of the ocean avoiding any obstacles that come your way. As an example of how much cooler this gets, there are walruses with jetpacks and sharks with lasers to unlock later down the line.
The controls of Choppy Waters are pretty simple, you tap to swim and swipe to activate a special ability when the ability bar has reached max, which can include bubbles, jetpacks, portals and lasers to avoid the traps.
It also gets more challenging the worse you play, as losing a life results in you getting slightly larger, and thus making it more difficult to avoid the many hazards littering the ocean. Make sure you’re up for the test to collect all those gold coin treasures as you play. Additionally, Choppy Waters has a leaderboard system where you can challenge your friends to beat your high score.
Derek Briggs created the game after losing their job last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is distributing the game free to play for anyone who might be interested in playing it to pass the time. Any in-app purchases made in-game will also remove adverts. Are you interested in auto runners?
