Dead By Daylight Mobile has been a long time coming, so it's great to finally see the global version arrive for iOS and Android today. It's a joint effort between Behaviour Interactive and NetEase, and it sees one player-controller killer going up against four unlucky survivors.
As a survivor, you'll be challenged to make your way around the map stealthily, avoiding the killer when possible. There are generators to tinker with that, when powered up, open the escape route to freedom. They have a tendency to break down loudly, alerting the killer to your position, so you'll often have to make use of hiding places and environmental hazards to outrun death.
The killer's job is to catch the survivors and hang them up on meat hooks to then be sacrificed to some Lovecraftian beast from above. What makes playing as the killer especially fun is how varied and impressive the game's roster is.
It's stacked with horror icons, ranging from Halloween's Michael Myers to Stranger Things' Demogorgon. Freddy Krueger, the gross pig thing from Saw, and Ghostface from Scream also make an appearance. They all come boasting their own unique powers, adding some variety to matches and forcing survivors to remain on their toes.
It's said to be a fully-fledged, definitive – and perhaps most importantly – mobile-friendly port. I very much hope that this global release is a considerable improvement over the version I played last year, which suffered from woeful controls and muddy visuals.
If you're up for a good scare, you'll find Dead By Daylight Mobile available for download now as a free-to-play title from over on the App Store and Google Play.
