Pokemon Rumble Rush is shutting down just over a year after its global launch

Of all the recent Pokemon games on mobile, I think it could be said that Pokemon Rumble Rush is among the weakest, lacking the solid core mechanics of Masters or the surprisingly long-lasting novelty of GO.

It launched back in May of last year, which was when Dave shared some thoughts on the game's iffy battle system and lack of solid hooks, saying "Pokemon Rumble Rush can be fun, it can require strategy, and it can keep you coming back for a while. But it's also intensely repetitive".

It was a fairly uninspiring entry in the Rumble Rush series that, perhaps somewhat unsurprisingly, is now set to shut down just over a year after launching globally. I'd like to think that it's improved considerably since launch, but playing it back then was too dull an experience to keep me around.

Nevertheless, it's always sad to see any game shut down, especially so soon after launch. There will be those out there who did stick with it and who do enjoy it. I've covered enough mobile game deaths to know that's always the case.

Serebii reports that service will cease on July 22nd, giving fans just over three months to find some closure. As you'd expect, the game's premium currency, Poke Diamonds, will no longer be available for purchase, and those who have any unused Diamonds will be refunded from July 22nd.

One new event is planned to arrive in the leadup to its closure. The Greninja and the Wonders of Kalos event will run from May 6th to May 27th.

If you'd like to give it a go before it's gone forever, you'll find Pokemon Rumble Rush available for download as a free-to-play title from both the App Store and Google Play.
