Hello and welcome to this week's entry in our long-running GAMES OF THE WEEK series. If you're looking for the best 5 games which have launched onto the iPhone, iPad or Android stores this week then you've landed yourself at the right place.

Here's where we discuss the top five games that have launched this week across any of the mobile platforms. 'But, wait a minute!' I hear you exclaim, 'There's loads of games out every week, you must have some restrictions!?'

You're right, with this article we pay no heed to the droves of subscription services (Apple Arcade, Google Play Pass, GameClub, Hatch, et cetera) which have launched on any of the mobile platforms. That means that our list is a finely curated list of great, fresh titles which you can download and play without subscribing to or installing any third party initiative. Of course, there are some great games on those services, but, let's focus on the stuff we can grab right now.

This week we've got some great new titles, we've got a narrative-heavy murder mystery, a spooky update for a classic horror title, an amazing sliding-slot action game and much much more.

Remember, if you're looking to check through some of our previous selections then you can always do that at our Games of The Week Hub, it's a great way to find games to fill out that empty storage space on your phone. Or, if you like your news in bitesize chunks, delivered straight to your palm then maybe follow us on Twitter.

Anyway, without any further delay, click through on the big, blue button below to find out more about the 5 best new games for mobile this week

A Case of Distrust - iOS

It might be news to you, but it's 1924 and you're a private investigator who has been sucked into a massive, twisted murder investigation. If that's not enough to have you intrigued then goodness me, just have a look at A Case of Distrust's trailer - it bleeds style with its cartoon silhouette art style.

I've always got ample time for games which do interesting things with narrative and art style, so its always great when something delivers as intruiging an offering as A Case of Distrust. Not only that but there's a compelling story and it even brings in topical social issues like emancipation.

Jumpgrid - iOS / Android (New)

Pocket Gamer's 'Top Video Boy' James made a video about Jumpgrid's iOS release earlier in the year. He waxed fond about the generation strafing design and how it merged simple movement based gameplay with modern tech inspired realtime challenge. Frankly, I don't blame him.

If you're looking for an arcade game with an amazing aesthetic and a requirement of fast fingers and faster reflexes then you don't need to look much further than Jumpgrid.

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game - iOS

Gwent, Gwent, Gwent. It's a competitive card game with amazing animations and its ripped straigth from the heart of the The Witcher universe. I've been dabbling with it since it first entered closed beta back in 1934 and have really enjoyed the art work and character animations, as a matter of fact I believe that they really set a precedent for the genre on the whole.

Gwent is incredibly utterly free, it is fantastic and succinct. Card games come and go, but much like Hearthstone and great-grandaddy Magic the Gathering, Gwent is here to stay and will only go from strength to strength thanks to its fantastic groundwork.

Forgotten Memories - iOS / Android (New)

Do you remember Forgotten Memories? Ironically I certainly don't. But, I think that might be because my mobile phone was running on Android, and Forgotten Memories never made its way over to the platform. Almost completely out of the blue the 2015 horrror title has recieved a major update for iOS and, unexpectedly, a release for the Google Play version.

For those unaware of the game, its a survival horror game complete with Resident Evil 4 style shoulder-view and an incredibly haunting atmosphere. If you'd like you can check out some footage from wayback-when, when our former video whizz Peter took a little dive into it for our sister-site AppSpy.

Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs - iOS / Android (New)

Love them or hate them, the Angry Birds games are a very pure example of physics games done well. Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs is better than just that though, its in AR. While that might seem a bit gimmicky, AR is a brilliant fit for games which rely on trajectory, and Rovio have done a great work of creating small dioramas ripe for destruction.

If you're still a bit cynical about the whole thing, you can find a video of our own James having a quick go of the game on his staircase at home - well worth a watch.
