Baldi’s Basics-inspired horror game ‘Baldimore's Highschool’ now available on Google Play

Baldimore's Highschool is a horror game inspired by the likes of Five Nights at Freddy’s, Granny, and – most notably – Baldi’s Basics. It recently launched on Google Play as a free-to-play title after enjoying plenty of success over on Ichi.io.

Baldi’s Basics blew up last year after being made as part of a Game Jam. From what I can tell, it starts out as a semi-educational game before eventually taking a sharp turn into horror. Baldi, your teacher, guides you through the school, giving you hints on how to progress, up until the point where he snaps and decides to chase you with a ruler. It’s a strange little game which seems to have a very passionate fanbase, much like the Five Nights at Freddy’s series.

Baldimore’s Highschool looks like a much more traditional horror game, especially in its visuals. Gone is Baldi's Basics' strikingly ugly (in a good, weird way) look, replaced by darkened corridors and glowing-eyed monsters. I suppose you could argue that it’s a better-looking game, but I imagine most of Basics' appeal lies in its strangeness.

The trailer shows off a floating, t-posing teddy bear and some of the puzzles you’ll be solving along the way. It certainly sounds like the game was quite the hit when it launched last year on Itch.io, going on to be the site’s most popular paid game of July 2018.

The Android port is said to include updated cutscenes and additional endings, which is nice. There’ll also be new items to hunt for and more well-hidden secrets to uncover.

If you fancy giving it a shot, you’ll find Baldimore's Highschool available for download now over on Google Play. It’s free to play with ads and IAPs, so it’s maybe worth a shot for fans of the game that so clearly inspired it.
