One of the things you might not have noticed in the furore about Diablo Immortal heading to mobile, is that Blizzard has announced it's working on bringing its other IP to mobile. That means that in the not-too-distant future we're going to be playing Overwatch on mobile.

With that in mind we decided to create this page. It's going to be the hub for all the information you're going to want about Overwatch for mobile. We'll be going in-depth as soon as we know anything about the game, so it's definitely going to be a good idea to bookmark this page to ensure you're not missing out on a single thing.

What sort of game is Overwatch for mobile going to be?

Bear in mind that, at the moment, everything here should be taken with a pinch of salt - Blizzard has told us it's working on mobile games, but other than Diablo Immortal none of them have been announced or even mentioned yet. There's a real chance there might not even be an Overwatch game for mobile.

But, let's put that aside for now and have a think about what we'd like Overwatch to be. I think it's fair to say we all just said "a shooter" out loud. We'd be surprised if the game wasn't some sort of FPS, but there are options that Blizzard could take if it wanted to avoid a straight port and the compromises that might entail.

For a best-possible-result you could do worse than look at Titanfall: Assault. Sure, it might not have got the traction it needed, but it was a brilliant mix of an RTS, a MOBA, and an action game that still kept the feel of the game it was based on. There are moments in PG towers when we all have a collective sigh when we think about Titanfall: Assault.

Worst possible scenario? Well, do you remember Battleborn, a similar shooter that first came out at around the same time as Overwatch? There was a Battleborn mobile game, called Battleborn Tap. It was an idle clicker. If people got upset about Diablo just coming to mobile, they'll probably burn down the universe if Blizzard turns Overwatch into a clicker.

How much will Overwatch for mobile cost?

Let's not beat around the bush here, Blizzard is one of the most savvy companies when it comes to monetisation. The simple fact that World of Warcraft is still one of the most popular MMOs proves that. Oh, and then there's Hearthstone, which is also incredibly popular and free to play.

We would not be at all surprised if Overwatch for mobile was free to play. Like it or not, that's the monetisation choice that works best for mobile, and when Blizzard makes the leap to your pocket you can bet it's going to want to make as much money as possible - because that's what companies want to do.

Hopefully though that's going to mean the game has a bigger budget than a premium release. If you want a super-polished version of Overwatch for your phone or tablet, then we reckon it'll have to be free to play.

When will Overwatch for mobile come out?

To be honest, your guess is as good as ours. We know for certain that Diablo Immortal is going to be the next Blizzard game to come to mobile, and that it's going to be the first uniquely portable experience that the dev has made. What happens after that is up in the air. There's even a chance that a failure for Diablo Immortal might make Blizzard reconsider its decision to spread its mobile wings.

We'd be pretty surprised if that was the case though. Nintendo has shown that the power players in the AAA world can make it on mobile if they think smart, and you can bet that Blizzard is going to learn a few tricks from the big N's playbook.

Our best guess though? Sometime late next year. Perhaps to coincide with the finals of the Overwatch League. It wouldn't come as a shock to us if Overwatch, or one of Blizzard's other upcoming IP, is featured in an Apple keynote in 2019.
