Cat Bird is a retro-inspired platformer in which you have to help navigate a cat / bird hybrid around a bunch of tricksy levels. The schtick here is that the protagonist can glide.

At review, we gave it a Silver Award and said: "Cat Bird doesn't break any new ground, but it's a gorgeous and flawless mobile platformer well worth checking out".

Then we asked the App Army for a second opinion, and here's what they had to say.

I thought right away that it was cute but wouldn't hold my attention for longer than 10 minutes. Well I’m still playing and enjoying it. It’s got some clever little puzzles.

The controls aren't quite perfect so your kitten will occasionally end up a mess. I do recommend this game though, and will be going back for a lot more.

Oh and it has animated stickers you can use while sending messages on your phone. I like that as well.

Cat Bird is a great puzzle platformer that starts easy then becomes really tricky as you advance through the worlds. It has an odd score counter that registers how many times you die, so a higher score isn't good.

There's a timed gameplay mode and the usual achievements. The controls are smooth but requires some practice to master. The hazards and puzzles are placed smartly, so fans of brain teasers will enjoy it.

Add to this a cutesy design and a flying cat and you have all of the ingredients for success. You really want to help him get home. I haven't finished it yet but I do hope he gets back home in the end.

Is it a bird? Is it a cat? I don't know - what's up with that? Bad intro jokes aside, Cat Bird is a rather pleasant retro-style platformer.

The premise is simple: get to the exit, avoiding the obstacles and instant death along the way. The challenge and fun is balanced correctly as well. It's not really twitchy, but a more relaxed gameplay suitable for mobile games.

The controls are virtual buttons for left, right, and jump. You can hold jump to fly as well. I'm only early into this game but there are loads of levels set over different worlds. The gameplay is great and it's got that just one more go feel to it. I highly recommend this game.

I love this game! The graphics are very nice, the controls respond well, and the levels are varied and well constructed.

The difficulty is really well balanced as well. You always feel motivated to try again but never frustrated because you failed.

I'm not a huge fan of retro visuals in mobile games - we can do a whole lot better now. That being said, I did enjoy this. The levels are challenging and reminiscent of past arcade games.

Meow! All around, it's not a bad way to pass the time. The retro graphics and cool music add to the already fun platform puzzling. It's got the right amount of difficulty to please everyone.

And as always a requirement for me, there's a couple of boss battles.

This is a fun game. Fly your cat bird through, under, and over obstacles while avoiding all manner of traps. It's not a new concept, with the usual levels that get more difficult as you go along, but not so bad that you get stuck enough to want to give up.

The graphics and music aren't bad and the controls are easy to pick up and play. I found myself really enjoying it. So a thumbs up from me. Oh - the cat bird is cute too!

Steve Clarke

Cat Bird's a ridiculously cute retro-style platform puzzler. There’s nothing new or innovative here, and unfortunately there are a couple of issues that hampered my enjoyment while playing.

The first is that the controls feel a bit twitchy at times, when split second timing and accurate positioning are required this is a massive no-no.

The second is more particular to my tastes: the adverts. I dislike having my playtime broken up by them at the best of times, but four in 15 minutes was too much for me and I closed the app. This is a competently made game that you may love, but it’s not for me.
