DC Comics Legends has you form teams to fight against undead superheroes

Warner Bros. has a new strategy RPG on the way called DC Comics Legends. It's an odd one.

You collect and upgrade superheroes and villains from the DC Comics universe to fight against a robot army called The Manhunters. As the name suggests, they're trying to wipe out the Earth's population.

The story goes revolves around something called The Curse of the Black Lanterns. Indeed, you'll see Green Lantern turned into a blackened version of himself at the start.

Turns out that The Manhunters are snatching heroes and taking them to the purgatorial Void where they become undead versions of themselves. Once done, former heroes then fight for The Manhunters, but they can be defeated and turned back.

As far as the game plays, it's all turn-based battles in which you select from the three abilities you've unlocked for each hero and villain. Some abilities heal your party, some boost defense, most will unleash an attack - either at a group or an individual.

You get coins for winning battles and can spend them on packs of cards that unlock new heroes at random. You can also spend them on upgrades and boost items.

It also has an energy system for regular play as well as online PVP battles. If you run out you can purchase more as to be expected.

It's all pretty standard stuff but there's an original story to follow through its chapters and you at least get to play as your favourite villains and heroes from the DC Comics universe.

DC Comics Legends has been in closed beta for a while now but is currently available to download in the New Zealand App Store. It should also be heading to Android at some point.
