Back in the old days, gamers spent all of their time in dungeons, hacking up rats and stealing oddly named swords from treasure chests.

From midnight tonight, you'll be able to relive those days in Coldfire Keep.

This game is a first-person dungeon-crawler that sees you leading a team of four warriors through corridors and chambers. There are puzzles to solve and monsters to kill as you stumble through the grid-based subterranean lair.

It's not a game for the faint of heart, and it sticks closely to the template laid down by the games to which it's paying homage. So, don't expect much action from the combat or much quarter from your foes. Some of whom are rats.

While Coldfire Keep is inspired by games-gone-by, it's actually pretty good looking, with some nice character models for you to try and slice up until they're nothing but puddles of blood.

There are about ten hours of gameplay to sink your retro teeth into here, including hidden secrets to find (if that's the sort of thing you like to do when you're in a desperate underground fight for your life).

And you can control the game in a number of different ways, including with an actual controller. You know, if you've got one of those.

Coldfire Keep will be available on the UK and US App Stores from midnight tonight, and will set you back £2.99 / $4.99.
