Android-powered GameStick gets redesign and charging dock thanks to Kickstarter support

The team behind the Android-powered GameStick has just revealed some images of the device's latest redesign.

Despite the fact that the GameStick's Kickstarter campaign hasn't officially ended yet (you can pledge donations until February 1st), this HDMI-enabled device has already prompted supporters to part with over $500,000.

In actual fact, the GameStick has been in the green since the second day of its funding drive, with the team hitting its initial $100,000 target within 30 hours of its Kickstarter page going live.

With funding secured, then, the folks over at GameStick HQ have been able to channel their thoughts into refining the controller unit and accompanying stick.

Judging by the images (above and below), the controller seems to be a more rounded, pebble-like affair now, with raised thumbsticks and softer edges.

Housing for the stick has been shifted to the back of the controller. The stick itself will now come with a 32GB microSD slot as standard.

In addition to the controller and stick bundle, Android gamers will be able to buy the recently announced GameStick dock.

This accessory will support wireless charging for the controller, and features a trio of USB ports for connecting peripherals such as keyboards and mice.

There are also a couple of HDMI ports, an ethernet socket for wired internet, and a SD card reader with support for up to a 64GB card.

If you like the GameStick's new look but think it could use some more colour options, then head over to the Kickstarter page in the next 70 hours and help the campaign meet its final stretch goal of $560,000.
