[UPDATE] UK Samsung Galaxy S II owners get to taste Android Ice Cream Sandwich on March 19th
Available in Europe and Korea now - other markets to follow
It's been a long time coming, but the day has finally arrived: Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), the latest version of Google's Android OS, is now available for the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Owners of Samsung's multi-million-selling handset, which was just named the world's best smartphone at the Global Mobile Awards, were alerted to the good news via the company's Facebook and Twitter feeds.
The handset manufacturer has been teasing Galaxy S II users with talk of Android 4.0 - which delivers Android Beam, Face Unlock, and a customisable launcher, among other things - since late last year, even before the arrival of the ICS-powered Galaxy Nexus.
According to Samsung, Galaxy S II owners in Korea and certain areas of Europe - including Poland, Hungary, and Sweden - can start updating their handsets to ICS today, while other markets will have to wait a little longer for the rollout to reach them.
Samsung's Facebook page also promises that ICS upgrades for the Galaxy Note, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Tab 8.9, and Galaxy Tab 10.1 will follow "soon".
