According to Rovio - and, heck, it should know - over 6.5 million downloads of Angry Birds and all of its various spin-offs were sold on Christmas Day 2011 on iOS and Android.

This gigantic tally smashed the Finnish studio's previous Christmas Day record (of 2 million downloads), and meant that every single man, woman, and child who had an iPod touch or Samsung Galaxy II waiting for them under the Xmas tree bought a copy of Angry Birds on the big day.

Well, nearly every single one.

Holiday fling

Rovio's Christmas Day figure includes downloads of Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, and Angry Birds Rio in both paid and free flavours.

Rovio's marketing manager Ville Heijari commented on the firm's Xmas Day success in conversation with AllThingsD: "We're really excited to have such a massive number of new people get acquainted with Angry Birds over the holidays - we have exciting new releases lined up for 2012, and can't wait to introduce them to the public."

And (sort of) on this subject, Rovio has already announced Angry Birds Seasons will be updated around Chinese New Year.
