Nintendo of Europe has announced that the eShop will be unavailable prior to the 3DS's forthcoming software update, and will only become accessible again once you've installed the delayed firmware.

According to Ninty, the eShop will be unavailable for a "limited time" while "essential maintenance" is being carried out on its servers.

The digital store will return following the server work boasting "new features", which you'll be able to take advantage of once you've updated your handheld.

A SpotPass notification will be sent out "soon" that will detail all of the eShop's changes, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Nintendo's forthcoming firmware update is expected to hit "by December 8th".
