LG’s worst-kept secret is a rather stunning Android phone sporting a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor.

Now the Korean company has officially announced the LG Optimus 2X, which it calls “the world's first smartphone with a dual-core processor.” There’ll be more of these beasts to come in 2011, but the Optimus 2X is looking set to be a strong early contender.

As well as the aforementioned 1GHz Tegra 2 dual core processor, the device features an 8-megapixel main camera, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera (you can expect these to come as standard from now on), a four-inch WVGA screen, 8GB of internal storage and Android 2.2.

If that last bit sounds a bit current-gen, rest assured that LG is looking to update the OS to Gingerbread (2.3) in the near future.

The Optimus 2X will be able to record and playback 1080p video through its HDMI port, which should be another widely adopted feature in high-end Android phones through 2011.

According to LG, “the LG Optimus 2X will be available in Korea next month with countries in Europe and Asia to follow.”
