Perhaps due to the upcoming release of the 3DS, Nintendo's DSi and DSi XL systems are set for a price drop within the next few weeks. Well, in America at least.

From the 12th of September, both DSi and DSi XL prices are taking a $20 drop, meaning that the new cost of the consoles will now be $149.99 and $169.99 respectively. The DS Lite price, however, will remain unaffected.

The price cut could have something to do with declining sales, or it could be a ploy to shift units before the 3DS hits the shops.

According to the NPD group, at the end of July the total number of Nintendo DS sales (Lite, DSi, and DSi XL) reached more than 42.3 million in the US alone.

We’re unsure whether these price changes will have any effect in the UK, but as soon as we find out we’ll let you know.
