The prince needs another week to get ready

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within iPhone slightly delayed, out June 3rd

It was no great surprise to learn that Prince of Persia: Warrior Within would be coming to iPhone more or less at the same time as the film hits cinemas. After all, Gameloft has already brought the game – the second in the console trilogy also containing The Sands of Time and The Two Thrones – to mobile.

What was slightly surprising, however, was that the iPhone game is a port of the full PS2 original, making it a full 3D third-person affair rather than the 2.5D platformer some of you were probably expecting.

Warrior Within is a much darker game than its forerunner Sands of Time, earning criticism from Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner for its excessive violence. The classic PoP gameplay is in place, though, with you running, jumping, clambering, swinging, and chopping your way to victory over several stages of gymnastic Arabian slaughter.

Our own Tracy Erickson took a look at Warrior Within a few weeks ago at Gameloft Paris and was generally positive, despite misgivings about performance. Perhaps this will be one to save for your iPhone 4G.

It was originally due out for the end of May, but it's been pushed back slightly to June 3rd. That means you should be able to get hold of it a week tomorrow.
