Nokia announces X6 16GB Symbian phone

Less storage, better price

Nokia announces X6 16GB Symbian phone

With the entire world seemingly on tenterhooks prior to Apple’s big hardware announcement tomorrow, Finnish mobile veteran Nokia has decided the time is right to launch a new handset.

Well, it’s not strictly new - the X6 16GB is a low-fat version of the original X6, which was released back in December 2009 and was supported by Nokia’s Comes With Music service.

The Symbian-based smartphone is now available with slightly less internal memory (the first edition had 32GB to play with) and no Comes With Music functionality but a far more attractive price tag.

While its predecessor cost £599 when it was originally released, the 16G variant will sell for £299 SIM-free. Contract prices are expected to be as low as £25 a month.

“Whether you just call and text or want a device that gives you music, movies and games at the touch of a button, the X6 is where it’s at this spring,” proclaims Nokia UK’s General Manager Mark Loughran. “Why carry around a music player or handheld game, when one phone can give you all the entertainment you need at a touch?”

Clearly Loughran hasn’t heard of the iPhone yet, but the X6 16GB remains an interesting prospect. If you feel like taking the plunge, the handset will be available tomorrow from Nokia’s online store.

Damien's mum hoped he would grow out of playing silly video games and gain respectable employment. Perhaps become a teacher or a scientist, that kind of thing. Needless to say she now weeps openly whenever anyone asks how her son's getting on these days.
