Gentlemen, start your engines

Sponsored Feature: iPhone App My Speedster reveals the fastest GPS cars in the world

In October of last year boy racers around the world rejoiced when we covered a nifty little App called My Speedster which turns your iPhone’s GPS device into a Racing Telemetry System for the sole purpose of setting timed records on a global leaderboard.

The idea is to find an open stretch of road, saddle up in the best vehicle available to you, start your engines and compete with others across the world in two categories - 0-60mph and a timed 400m.

The developer Internet Marketing had this to say about the App: "Remember speeding is dangerous, but we strongly believe there are plenty of safe places in every city where people can show their driving skills. We just provide the technology to make the process interesting."

Putting safety concerns aside for just a moment, after a couple of months on the App Store it's about time to take a look at the somewhat surprising top 0-60 mph (100 kmph) times:

1. Honda Accord EX-L V6 Coupe - Canada (10,186 seconds)
2. Ford Fairlane - Australia
3. Dodge Neon from - USA
4. Peugeot 207cc - Germany
5. Opel Speedster - Germany.

In the 400m standings:

1. Mercedes Class B – Italy
2. Volkswagen Golf IV – Germany
3. Renault Clio RS – The Netherlands

While we certainly don’t condone speeding or reckless driving, surely a 0-60 mph time of 10.1 seconds has got to be beatable?

Take a look at the complete My Speedster leaderboard here (mobile Safari only).
