Less a game, more a musical experience, Gamerholix's Doo Wop is an interesting app.

Like a very simple synthesizer, you tap on the various cartoon characters to trigger their specific sound. They also do a little animation to get you in the mood.

Then, using the provided backing tracks - which can be toggled off and on, and are split into music and rhythm parts - you can start to build up your own thang by tapping on the characters in sequence.

The beautiful music you make can then be recorded out in one of ten slots for your future listening pleasure.

There are four sets of characters for you to get your fingers tapping along to, and as well as the main music mode, there's also a 'repeat back' mini-game where you have to copy the progressively more complex pattern of singing characters.

You can get some idea how it works from the following video.

As with most music-based apps, you do need to spend a bit of time learning how everything works, but it's fairly easy to get to grips with Doo Wop. The end results depend on your musical talent of course.

Doo Wop is out now, priced 99c, €0.79 or 59p.
