We're big fans of Mobile Battles: Reign of Swords in its original mobile version, so the news that developer Punch Entertainment has released it on iPhone is worth celebrating.

The original was a turn-based strategy game that you could play over the air against other mobile users. The iPhone version follows that, but with improvements.

Such as? "We added completely new audio and sound effects, added enhanced graphics and totally new special effects," says Punch CEO Tobin Lent.

"We also improved AI, revised the unit reward/penalty system for winning and losing multiplayer battles and added numerous usability improvements. We put a lot into the iPhone version and wanted to make Reign the best turn-based strategy game out there."

Punch is already working on bringing its other mobile hit, EGO, to iPhone. Lent says the developer is enthusiastic about Apple's handset and the App Store.

"Phone will be a big focus for Punch," he says. "We are really impressed with the iPhone platform as a whole, both technically and commercially. They did everything right."

For more on Lent's thoughts on iPhone, his company's plans for Android, and its decision to back away from Java and BREW mobile development, check out the Punch Entertainment interview on PocketGamer.biz.
