To be frank, we're not very good at pool. Maybe that's why we didn't know such things as international rules existed – surely it's just a case of arguing around the pub whether you really have to shoot down the table after someone's potted the white?

Well apparently not, because international rule sets is exactly what you'll get with 8Ball Allstars, Oxygen's fully-featured DS pool sim. The game will support the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, and with its Winner Stays On mode you'll be able to hustle your way around the world of DS pool players, committing plenty of international rule violations as you go.

Global ball potting will be further aided by the game's friend lists, chat rooms and league tables. Local wireless and cart-sharing options will be available for those without the heart for world domination.

As for the game itself, standard options such as traditional and what Oxygen calls 'eccentric' tables will be available, as will various challenge modes, and 3, 6, 8, 9 and 10 ball games. You'll also be able to customise your own tables and avatars using the in-game editors.

Of course, strip all this away and the most crucial aspect of 8Ball Allstars will be how it models the actual interaction between long wooden stick and white sphere. 'Complete cue control', is promised, but we'll have to wait until the release date of September 7th before we can pass judge that.
