The army of console crossovers to mobile continues to mass, with Hands On announcing it has added Activision's war game Call of Duty 3 to its ranks.

But whereas most rank-and-file mobile editions have born little in common with their console big brothers beyond the name, Hands On claims Call of Duty 3 will be different, providing mobile gamers with an action game that's true in spirit to its roots.

Set during the Normandy Breakout campaign (that's a World War 2 operation, not a block breaking game from France), Call of Duty 3 tasks you with guiding a troop of four soldiers through a series of eight missions, each closely based on those of the console version.

With objectives varying from defending territory and pushing back the front line to more subtle sabotage attacks behind enemy lines, the game promises a variety of play styles, shifting the focus between individuals and squad-based manoeuvres.

Call of Duty 3 will also offer plenty of weapons and equipment with which to go about your missions, including binoculars for sighting artillery strike co-ordinates, sniper rifles for picking off targets and grenades for a more direct approach.

Whilst some of these elements made it into the previous edition of the game, the transformable map that enables you to blast your way into closed off areas with explosives should prove a welcome addition. Ditto improved squad AI and a friendly tutorial mode.

You'll be able to find out exactly how well Call of Duty 3 shapes up next month, when we put the game through its paces somewhat closer to the November 10th launch date, which is set to tie-in with the console release.
