Armageddon Squadron soars onto iPhone

Polarbit has really been unlocking the iPhone's arcade potential recently, with games like Raging Thunder and Wave Blazer, and now it's taking to the skies with a 3D take on the classic coin-op 1942 in the shape of Armageddon Squadron.

Hop into your kite and take her into the big blue for a range of missions against enemy forces. Bombing and strafing runs against enemy facilities and dogfights against other aces and barons are among the mission objectives of Armageddon Squadron. Five different aircraft and a bunch of game modes (including an objective-free option so you can go pleasure cruising or on destructive runs of your own design) make this a pretty intriguing looking title.

"Armageddon Squadron represents a slight departure for us in terms of gameplay style compared to Raging Thunder, WaveBlazer and Crash Nitro Kart," says Anders Nilsson, co-founder of Polarbit. "It proves beyond any doubt that Polarbit are capable of delivering top-notch games regardless of genre or game type."

One of Armageddon Squadron's most exciting features - local and online wi-fi multiplayer - isn't actually activated yet, but Polarbit promises it's imminent in the next update.

Strafe the 'Buy It!' button to fly over to the App Store and check it out, and don't forget to bomb the 'Track It!' button for more Armageddon Squadron news as it lands.

Lands! Geddit? Ah, never mind…

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
