So, first thing first, you need to pick the civilization that suits your game style the best. Since we already have an Age of Empires Mobile - Best Civilizations guide that goes into details, just hop there to read the pros and cons of each.

Tip #2 - The best heroes

Investing in the right heroes will take you a long way in Age of Empires Mobile. Each hero has a distinct skill set that buffs certain types of armies. I've already put together an Age of Empires Mobile - Heroes tier list, so I won't get into it in this paragraph. Check out the tier list to find out the most powerful heroes you can use.

Tip #3 - How to manage the villagers

Effective use of villagers plays a big part in establishing a strong economy in Age of Empires Mobile. And a strong economy means a bigger military, so I cannot stress enough how important this is.

Villagers are the ones who gather resources (such as food, wood, stone, and gold), as well as constructing and upgrading your buildings.

Making use of the "Villager Management System" allows you to assign villagers to various tasks. The best strategy is to assign them to farms, lumber camps, and mines just to make sure you have a balanced resource flow, with at least one villager dedicated to each resource type.

When you need it, check their assignments and adjust them to fit your needs.

Increasing villager capacity by upgrading houses allows for a larger workforce. Certain civilizations, like the Chinese, offer bonuses to villager capacity, providing an early-game advantage. This is the reason why the Chinese are considered to be one of the best civilizations, at least early on.

Assigning villagers to the following places:

  • Market: Increases your daily exchange limit, allowing you to trade more resources.
  • Warehouse: The warehouse protects your resources during an attack, ensuring you don't lose too much if you are defeated.
  • Barracks: Allows you to train more troops faster, which is especially useful during events that require you to train a certain number of troops.
  • Hospital: Reduces the healing time for your wounded troops, allowing them to return to battle sooner.
  • Limited-time assignments: Boost production, reduce healing times, or gain other temporary benefits.

Keep in mind that these assignments have a cooldown period, so use them wisely.

Tip #4 - Alliances

In a game like Age of Empires Mobile, joining a large alliance offers significant advantages. So, even if you are more of a solo player, you should consider joining one, as it can significantly accelerate your progression.

Alliances provide bonuses to resource gathering, research, and unit stats. One huge benefit comes from resource sharing and "Alliance Help," which reduces building and research times.

Even if you don't think this is much in the early game, the resources accumulate to a significant amount, especially in the later stages.

Also, the Alliance Treasury provides valuable rewards, including Elite Tokens that can be used for hero skill points and XP boosts.

So, long story short, there's just no downside to joining an active alliance, which, by the way, usually controls key territories of the map and also takes part in events.

Tip #5 - Building your city

Effective city building plays an essential role in Age of Empires Mobile. Even though you will simply follow the quest line, it's good to know that prioritizing the town centre is crucial. That is because its level dictates the maximum level of other buildings and unlocks key features like troop and hero slots. At level 11, it will significantly expand your military capabilities.

Other than that, focus on essential military structures: Barracks (starting with Swordsmen), Stable (for Cavalry), Archery Range (for ranged support), and Pikemen Barracks (for anti-cavalry defence).

Upgraded farms, quarries, and lumber camps will provide resources for continuous growth. The university is key for research upgrades that boost both resource gathering and military strength, so prioritizing its upgrades is very important for faster research and unlocking advanced troops.

Prioritize "Research Speed 1" and "Building Speed 1" in the Economic Tech Tree to accelerate overall progress.

Building and levelling up the Embassy allows for alliance assistance that can reduce building upgrade times. Making use of the Smithy to craft and equip gear for your heroes will give you a significant power boost.

Tip #6 - Gift redemption system

Last but not least, in case you didn't know, there are various Age of Empire Mobile codes that you can use. Make sure to claim everything on our list and get various in-game rewards such as speedups and materials as that will help you progress faster.

I've enjoyed playing games ever since I was a kid (which was a long long time ago at this point). It all started off with an Atari 65XE, then came an Amiga 500+, a Sega Genesis, a 386, and the rest was history. I consider myself lucky to have been able to experience the gaming evolution over the years - this is my passion, and what I will continue to do for as long as I can.
