Update: 505 Games has contacted Pocket Gamer to refute Mosher's story, and claims that "Abzu has no plans to come to mobile."

If you haven't played Journey, hang your head in shame.

Now raise it, and check out Abzu - an artsy exploration game that Pocket Gamer has learned could potentially be released on mobile.

Abzu is the creation of Giant Squid, the studios set up by Journey's former lead artist Matt Nava.

Under the sea

"We've been in talks with Apple and Google, who are really interested in Abzu," said Giant Squid's director of marketing Geoff Mosher.

"We'd love to take it on to mobile, and there's a strong possibility that we'll do so."

It's the first time the developer has hinted at a mobile release, instead of focusing on its PS4 and Windows PC launch sometime during the first half of 2016.

Journey itself was never launched outside of the console arenas, but the sheer volume of mobile games at this year's E3 is prompting many developers to consider expanding their horizons.

Down where it's wetter

Abzu sees players take third-person control of a solitary diver and plunge into a world of environmental storytelling exploring a beautifully designed ocean.

The game has already been hailed as an incredibly "deep" game (puns probably intended) with first-rate design.

While Mosher would not confirm a mobile release date nor platforms, if a mobile version of Abzu is created it's likely it wouldn't be launched until after its PC and console siblings hit shelves.
