Developer Zen Studios has today announced Epic Quest - an all-new "original pinball experience" for its popular iOS and Android pinball title Zen Pinball.

The new pinball table, which is packed full of elements from role-playing games, sees you join a brave knight called Max, who has to battle hordes of evil-looking monsters and rescue a wealthy princess.

As you complete missions and other table objectives, you'll earn both loot and "epic" gear that will aid you in your quest. These, along with your collected XP, will all carry over to your next game should you accidentally perish.

"It is our quest to deliver the most entertaining and original pinball tables, and Epic Quest delivers on both fronts," Mel Kirk, Zen Studios VP of marketing and PR, said.

"With a wink and a nudge towards classic RPG tropes, Epic Quest blends frantic pinball action, obsessive character building, and liberally applied tongue-in-cheek humour."

Upon hearing this news, Pocket Gamer's Will Wilson fired off an email to Zen Studios to ask whether a mix of RPG elements and pinball was something the studio would explore further in the future.

"We could definitely take this idea of blending RPG and pinball further, however where we are at this point was quite a bit of work! If the table is well received then I would expect we will continue down the road of exploration and see what we can do," Kirk replied.

Epic Quest is expected to arrive sometime this month, so keep your eyes peeled for it.

Zen Pinball is available on the App Store [download] and Android Market [download] for free.
