Those devious non-arthropodic military types are back with another dose of tactical turn-based earthworm carnage. The game is Worms 2: Armageddon, out now on iPhone and iPad in New Zealand.

Worms 2 has you beating out a team of enemy invertebrates with an exhaustive arsenal of deadly weapons. The game features the classic tools, including Ninja Rope and Concrete Donkey, as well as a massive collection of new utilities like the Sentry Gun, Electromagnet, Napalm Strike, Super Sheep, Petrol Bomb, Armageddon, Drill, Earthquake, and Poison Strike.

There’s a single-player campaign, with 30 levels spread across five new themes. If you’ve beat that and you’re still stuck by yourself, there’s also an endless wave of enemy worms in “Body Count” mode.

If you’ve got some pals, there’s Worms multiplayer, both local and online. You can hook up with Bluetooth or wi-fi and play against a buddy over the web, or against three enemies if you’re in close proximity.

This game is all about customisation. You can edit game styles both online and off; create teams with specific names, hats, victory dances and forts; buy new weapons and gravestones; and download more speech banks.

There’s also Plus+ support, Twitter and Facebook integration, action replays, and 30 in-game achievements. If you’re playing on iPad, you'det better graphics and the ability to flip the screen around, allowing you to play the game on a coffee table without manhandling your tablet between turns.

The game is out now in New Zealand, and will hit international App Stores before tomorrow morning. It's yours for £2.99 / $4.99 / €3.99.
