So, you’ve bought Wipeout Pure. Good choice. The futuristic hover-racing game is one of the must-have launch titles for the PSP. But there’s another reason it’s a good choice - it’s also the first game that Sony’s going to be supporting with loads of extra downloadable content. In fact, there’s going to be so much stuff available that if you get it all, you will have doubled the size of the game!

The trick to getting hold of such goodies depends on you being able to set up your PSP to connect to the Internet via the built-in wi-fi adapter. The easiest way is if you have a home wireless network and you can follow our handy guide to doing that at http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/feat_howto_pspwireless.asp?t=features&sec=2. When you're connected you can access the freebies through the download options within the Wipeout Pure game itself. Of course, you’ll also need a large enough memory stick to hold all the data too!

The first download pack, which is available now, is the Gamma pack which include new tracks such as Exostra Run and Sebenco Peak. New skins designed by French graffiti artist Scien and the UK's Jon Burgerman are also available for the Tigron and Van Uber class of ships.

Next up will be Delta pack (released on the 16th September,) which will be available in association with Puma. Included will be a special turbo Puma racecraft as well as designer Puma skins and branded racetracks.

Then it will be time for the Classic Packs 1&2 ( out on the 3rd and 16th of October respectively), which will feature some of Wipeout’s classic music, skins and ships from the game's first incarnation on the original PlayStation console. Pack 1 contains the Altima VII and Odessa Keys tracks, skins for the Assegai and Harimau classes and the Goteki 45 ship. Pack 2 has the Porto Kora and Vohl Square tracks, skins for the Triakis and AG Systems classes and the Icaras ship. The final release will be the Europe-only Omega pack, which is still in the process of being organised.
