Ultimate Mortal Kombat's fatalities revealed in all their gory glory
Don't look if your boss has been giving you a hard time today - it'll only give you ideas
The Mortal Kombat beat-'em-up series has done a lot to reinvent itself over the years, with plenty of quirky new play modes piled on top of the basic 2D fighting game. (We still haven't forgotten playing a big-headed cartoon Sub Zero wedged into a go-cart in 'Motor Kombat', an extra game included with the PlayStation 2's Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.)
But, let's face it, all we really care about in a Mortal Kombat game are the fatalities. No other fighting game delivers gore in quite such a wonderfully gratuitous way. Spines are ripped out, heads are popped off… we even remember pulling off a man's leg and then beating him round the head with it.
On the family friendly DS, things are looking perhaps a little less graphic than they have in the past, but the fatalities still remain. Check them out here in a new trailer released by publisher Midway.
The video's also accompanied by new screenshots, which kindly display the fighting action. Previously released shots also show the game's Puzzle Kombat mini-game, which is a sort of cross between Tetris and Bejeweled.
With special touchscreen controls and online bouts supported via wi-fi, it certainly promises a comprehensive dose of, um, kombat. There's not long to wait before you can play it, either: it's due in shops on December 7th.
