It's been much rumoured, and now Midway has finally announced the DS version of its long running Mortal Kombat series.

Titled Ultimate Mortal Kombat, the game promises to be a touchscreen version of the Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 arcade game, which through the years has been ported to Nintendo consoles such as the SNES and (less impressively) GBA. Playable characters will include Jade, Kitana, Scorpion, Smoke, and Reptile, while Mileena, Classic Sub-Zero, and Human Smoke are unlockable.

As for the modes, the Puzzle Kombat mini-game, first seen in Mortal Kombat: Deception, will be included to hold your attention during aggression downtime, while online bouts and global leaderboards will be supported via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat is due for release sometime in November.
