Traps n' Gemstones - Complete walkthrough and item guide
How to get the dynamite, gramophone, compass, torch, and more
Donut Games's cute and charming Metroidvania Traps n' Gemstones is a hard game to write a walkthrough for.
It's so open-ended and nonlinear. You can complete the game in pretty much any way you see fit, collecting the relics (and the keys you need to open the treasure chests) in whatever order you like.
But, there are some key things you need to do, and some important areas you need to unlock before you can start your treasure hunting proper.
So, follow the guide below and you'll unlock all the items, and gain access to all the main areas where you'll find keys and relic treasure chests. Then, with that under your belt, use our other guides to get all the collectables in the guide and earn that 100 percent completion ranking.Other Traps n' Gemstones guides Relics

We start our journey outside a foreboding Egyptian pyramid. Stand on the lift and press down to venture into the belly of the beast.
Take the lift down again and talk to this chap, who tells you to get dynamite and a whip. Then head into the room on the lower left.
Use the down button to roll through the gap and continue going left. Go left through the next room, too.
Open the treasure chest in this room to get the whip. Test it out (press the circle button on the right) on the mummy in this room. Now return to the lift room and take the exit in the top right.
Now you've got your whip, you can make it through this room. Take out the two mummies and continue on to the right and walk straight through the next room.
In this room, grab the dynamite from the chest. Now return to the lift room at the centre of the pyramid map.
Walk to the boulders and tap on the 'Use' button that appears. Run away and the dynamite will explode, causing the boulders to dissapear. Now take the lift down and exit through the corridor on your right. Bypass the next room.
Attempt to beat this obstacle by standing on the pressure plate. It's impossible - the spears drop too quickly for you to run underneath them! So, head back to the lift, go down, and go in the next available exit on your right.
After the short cutscene, untie Farid. He'll mention that you need something to hold down the pressure plate and lets you reach the crate above, which contains a weight. Now head back to the room with the big spears.
Now use the weight on the pressure plate and walk safely to the right and through the door. Slide down the waterslide on your butt, swim forward, and jump out of the water so you can walk through the door on your right. Then swim through the next room to exit to the chamber on your right.
Hit the blue button to make the blue floor disappear and the blue stairs appear. Then go down and press the lower button. Head down the new staircase, press the button, and go down the last set of stairs. Now exit through the door to your right.
Though, while you're here, you might as well grab relic 5-E, as you'll need it to advance a little later on.
Swim through the water and avoid the fish and jellyfish. You should definitely grab the relic in this room - 1-A - as we'll need it later.
Then, take the lift up and go through the corridor on your right. Smash the three skeletons using your whip and then jump in the water. Go down, right, and then up - carefully avoiding the jellyfish and piranaha as you go. Then, go through the door on your right.
In this room, hit the red button on the left (at the top) and then push the lever. This will make the water rise and you can swim through the area that's laced with spikes. Now go through the door on the right.
In this room, wait until some pharoahs are stood on the trapdoors and then hit the button to make them drop onto the spikes. Rinse and repeat until all are dead. Open the treasure chest to get a gramophone. Handy!
Head back the way you came until you get to the room with the red and blue buttons. Instead of going up, go through the lower left door. Go through the next room and then you'll end up in the room in the screenshot above.
Stand on the platform on the right and ride it down, carefully avoiding the spinning fire spikes as you go. When you hit the bottom, stand on the left platform and do the same, but on the way back up.
In this room, wait for the patrolling pharoahs to walk left and then hop up the platforms on the right. Smash the pot to get a key, and then use it to open the treasure chest and get relic 4-E. Now exit the door on the left.
Go past the golden statue room, and then place relic 4-E on the plinth. This will cause the blocks on the left to rise up, allowing you safe passage. Head on through and you'll find yourself in a faimilar place - back at the central lift column.
Go down until you see the first door on the right that you can enter (you have to roll to access it). Place relic 1-A on the plinth. Watch out for the falling snakes and then jump up to get the oxygen tank.
Return to the lift shaft, go down and take the door show in the screenshot above. Use the cannons to fire yourself to the left side of the room. Open the chest to get relic 4-C (we'll need it to advance a little later) and enter the door near the treasure chest.
In this room, you'll be told to not release the scorpion. Release the scorpion. Lead it down to the lower section (and watch out for its projectile attack) and then when it kills itself on the spikes, you'll be able to enter the gated area on the left.
In the next room, go left and kill the skeletons as you go to make safe passage over the spikes.
Use the gramophone to make the guard dance and you'll be able to walk past. Go over the rope bridge and go into the room on the left. Use the cannons to fire your way up this vertical level (and over the bats, but under the spikes). For the top row of cannons, jump over them (not in them) or you'll get fired straight into spikes. Exit this room via the door in the top left hand corner.
In this room, drop down and drink the blue potion. This will make a bridge appear over the spikes. Take it (and kill the snake) and then go through the door on the left.
Open the crate to get the rock hammer. This handy tool can smash small square boulders, like the ones in this room. Break them open (use the whip button) and exit this room at the bottom of the screen. There are loads of relics and symbols in here, so don't miss them.
In this room, kill the snakes and hit the lever on the right. Drop down through the trap door, kill a couple more snakes, and then head out the door on the right. You should now make your way back to the main elevator shaft in the centre of the pyramid.
At this section, you need to plop down relic 4-C to lower the steps. Exit through the door on your right to return to the lift shaft.
Ride the lift up and enter the door on the left, here. In the next room, follow the Egyptian fella's instructions to get the relic and place it on the plinth to make the blocks rise up. Head left again.
In this room, jump in the cannons and allow yourself to be fired across the level. When you land on solid ground, jump in the next cannon and then - when the next cannon you land in allows you the choice of going left or up - choose up. This will take you up a narrow vertical shaft and into a new area.
In this room, ride the elevator platform up and then stand on the red button. An arrow will shoot out and momentarily get lodged in the wall. Jump on it and then jump up and head through the exit on the left. In the next room, use the same technique again to climb up to the top part of the room.
Use the same technique again, but this time you must jump over the lowest and first arrow that is fired out. If you're still alive, hop up from arrow to arrow and exit this room via the top left door.
In this room, you can avoid the first two arrows by running just after the arrow is fired out. For the last, bottom arrow you'll need to jump over it midway across the platform to avoid getting hit. Kill the snake and exit the room via the door on the left. In the next room, muder the snake and continue on to the room on the left.
Open the crate to get the gun. Hooray - you can now kill enemies from afar (while your bullets last). Use it in this room to kill the entire row of mummies (after they appear from their sarcophogus) with one shot.
Now make your way through the next few rooms. Make sure you grab relic 5-A from the treasure chest in the room to the left of the gun area.
You'll eventually get back to the first room with the arrow platform (as seen above). This time, however, go through the door on the lower left. Go left again, and then work your way down the vertical chamber and exit to the left. In both rooms, watch out for snakes that teleport in from thin air.
Open the crate in this room to get the torch. Now we can light up dark rooms. Hooray! We'll come back to it later. For now…
Go back to the statue chamber. Which is here, on the map. You can come in from the left, via the lift shaft, as you opened the way earlier in the guide.
For the next bit, you need relics 5-A, 5-C, and 5-E. We got 5-A and 5-E earlier. Just use our relic guide to go get 5-C.
Now, plop those three relics down on the three plinths in this room and go down the secret passage way that opens up. Follow the main path until you get to the area with the relic. Go right.
Take the purple potion to turn the pharoahs into mummies. Now whip or shoot the mummies to get safe passage to the right.
From this room, go to the right.
Swim through the water, minding the jellyfish and piranhas.
If you find yourself drowning, you obviously missed the earlier bit on getting the oxygen tank.
Go up to the top of this watery room and hit the lever to open the gate. Then go back into the drink and swim up to go through the door on your right. Inside, open the treasure chest to get relic 3-A.
Now drop down, ride the minecart to the left, and return to the central lift shaft.
Go to this room, which is off to the left of the main lift shaft. Now rescue the Egyptian chap and head left. Remember that torch we got earlier? It will light up this pitch black room.
Work your way through this dark room - carefully. You may need to roll to get over the first big jump. When you get into the next room on the left, open the crate to get a compass.
Now go back to the room where you found the torch which is here, on the map.
Your compass will point to different buttons. Follow it to press the seven buttons in a specific order. The little seven dot meter on top of the compass shows you how you're doing. When you hit all seven in the right order, you can advance to the room on the left.
Plop down relic 3-A, and kill the scorpion with your whip (or gun, if you're packing). When its dead, the door on the left will open. Go on through and get relic 1-D.
At this point, you will have opened all the main rooms on the map and have all the equipment in the game. You should now refer to our relics and key guides so you can find all 25 relics, and return them to their rightful homes.
When all relics have been restored to their original positions, return to this room.
This is the end of the game, and you'll unlock a helper - which scoops up gems and coins - as your final reward. Congrats! Now you can track down all the secret symbols and chambers.
