Square's The World Ends With You gets UK release date

Square Enix has announced the UK release date for its new RPG, The World Ends With You.

The game will appear here on April 18th, which is a whole four days earlier than in the US. Which is refreshing.

The game, which is known as Subarashiki Kono Sekai in Japan, takes place in modern day Tokyo and sees you playing a character called Neku who wakes up to a phone message telling him he only has seven days to live.

"Square Enix has traditionally been associated with RPGs set in fantasy lands, but The World Ends With You is our first ever game to be set in modern times and real-life locations," said John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix, presumably as he looked out of his office window and realised our world isn't full of wandering Chocobos. "We believe gamers of all ages and abilities will be able to enjoy all that The World Ends With You has to offer."

As well as solving the game's tricky seven-day dilemma, you'll be able to shop for fashion, enjoy what's described as a soundtrack of bleeding-edge hip-hop, rock and techno, and use psychic powers to read the thoughts of other characters.

In addition, the game includes mini-games that can be played by up to four players via wi-fi and also features a Chance Encounter mode in which you can share data with fellow gamers you bump into in the real world.

Square has released new screenshots of the game in action (above) and you can find out more at the official website, too. We'll obviously have a review for you nearer its release in April.
