The Nightmare Cooperative, a puzzling roguelike variant from Bad Hotel and Wave Trip maker Lucky Frame, is coming to iOS this week.

At a first glance, it might look like your typical dungeon crawler. There's permadeath, randomly generated levels, and enemies that only move when you do.

But, things change when you have multiple heroes on screen at once and you realise that all team members move simultaneously. Swipe up and your archer, ninja, and swordsman all shift one tile to the north.

The game also has a clever risk versus reward mechanic. The longer you stay on one floor, scooping up coins and rummaging through chests, the more dangerous that area gets. Enemies appear and floor tiles give way to lava and acid.

Luckily, you've got some help on your side as each hero has a special power (an archer can fire arrows at far off foes, and ninjas can teleport across the map).

Nightmare Cooperative

The Nightmare Cooperative is a nefariously tricky game, that's bursting with good ideas and comes with a dashing minimalist art style. It's certainly one of the more intriguing games joining the App Store this week.

It's out on iOS on August 28th where it will cost £2.49 / $3.99. An Android version will follow along shortly. We'll have a full review soon.
