The Gardens Between launches onto Apple Arcade after three years since it first launched onto iOS

After being revealed to be coming this month, The Gardens Between+, an enhanced version of the previously released 3D adventure puzzle game, has officially launched onto the platform. This offers up a free alternative to what is normally a $4.99 game for subscribers to Apple Arcade, and is overall a pretty enjoyable little puzzler romp.

The Gardens Between sees protagonists Arina and Frendt, childhood friends, fall into a variety of different surreal and dreamlike gardens, each set amongst an island. All of these islands have a scattering of childhood mementos from both of their younger years, and there’s a bit of mystery as to what it all means.

Very quickly, The Gardens Between turns into quite an emotional tale that is all about the significance of memories, friendship, and what it truly means to know another person in your life. This surmounts into a bittersweet and sombre tale that will likely tug at the ol’ heartstrings by the time the credits roll.

As for gameplay, it is a puzzle game at its core, and this is represented by how time flows in many different ways. You’ll have to manipulate this flow to your own use, using it to move objects into places that will allow you to push forward and progress. The puzzle mechanics are decently deep, but really this is a narrative-based game and you’re mostly here to see the duo interact.

The Gardens Between has seen an abundance of praise since launching back in 2019, and rightfully so. With an engaging premise, a super deep storyline that will turn on the waterworks, and some pretty solid puzzle mechanics to top it off, there’s a lot to love. If you’re an Apple Arcade subscriber, you can download it for free at the iOS link below. Otherwise, you can purchase it for $4.99 as well!
